Hey guys!
Now I don’t know about you guys, but here
in Australia there is only around 4 months until our exams begin for high
school. Now considering this is my last year, the whole idea has become
daunting and overwhelming as this time the mark counts.
I’m not the one to sit at my desk for hours
on end study. That’s just not me. So I love getting all the extra help I can
get ensuring I retain the highest amount of information.
Today I am about to share with you my
biggest tip when it comes to increasing the amount of recall of information
when it comes to your exam.
Research done by psychologist have shown
that you are more likely to recall a higher amount of information when your
state and context dependent cues are undergoing the same experience in both
studying and doing your exam.
Now some of you may be thinking “the heck
are you on about?" but to be hones I don’t want to bore you with the
details of it in which I learnt in psychology, for now all you need to know is
‘State’ is emotions and ‘context’ is your inner and outer environment.
What I’m trying to say is: make the
experience you're having while studying the content as similar as possible to
when you need to regurgitate it on paper.
EXAMPLES
1. Listen
to a playlist of songs before sitting the exam that are specific to what you
listened to while studying for the subject/content (stick to a low number of
songs eg. 3-5)
2. If
you’re like me and find yourself drinking coffee while studying, have a cup of
coffee before sitting the exam
3. Wear
perfume during studying and then wear it again during the exam
4. Write
your notes in a specific colour then use that colour to highlight key words in
questions when in the exam
…you guys getting my drift?
But of course if you are following this
theory then do not overlap what you are doing while studying for one subject to
another, because that can mix up your cues which will lead to difficulty
recalling the information.
I really hope this wasn’t too boring to
read and that it helps you! Good luck with your exams and tests! To those who
have just finished their year course, maybe keep the theory handy for next year
and organise your plan.
Comment down below what helps you study so it
can not only help myself but others!
Celest xo
